You're aiming your tirade at the wrong person. I learnt to play
music by ear, learnt to read music so I could piss my mates off by
doing exams before and better than they did, and only started
playing in an orchestra when I wanted to go on a tour I heard
about. I do not particularly delight in regurjitating someone else's
music, but the best place to hear an orchestral work is from on the
stage where it's being played.

You slag musicians because they play a dead men's music, and
yet you're perfectly happy to listen to them doing it i.e. you don't
even have the commitment, passion or ability to play the stuff
yourself. That is, of course, unless you read scores (Tim
Gudgeon), rather than listen to people playing them (Mozart - the
Mills & Boon of the dead musicians' world).

Your rant also demonstrated, thanks to the comment about
musicians being tape recorders, that you listen to too few
renditions of your supposedly beloved music, or at least you listen
to poor ones. Good conductors have their own takes on how the
music should sound, and the musicians tend to have an input into
how it should sound - particularly soloists, when it comes to
cadenzas, etc. because a good musician will improvise.

Mozart - the choice of Otis, Schindler and a dozen other leading lift
manufacturers. Oh, and Wonderwall is one of the most dispicable
pieces of shit I've ever had the misfortune to switch off.
