You're blinkered idealistic view of the country is endlessly tiresome.

Point 1: My analysis of the degree to which people in this country do not
think for themselves is based on my experience of people in this country.
This is of course represented in the media, but it is realised in my every
day life.

Point 2: The word "peasants" was utterly relevant in the context it was used
(by Nick). Large mobs of people waving banners and setting fire to things is
somewhat reminiscent of large mobs of peasants waving pitchforks and setting
fire to things.

Point 3: The most popular national daily newspaper in this country is the
Sun. The least popular is the Independent. One is brainless trash and naked
women. The other is a mixture of comment from all types with all bias that
challenges the standards. Gosh, that's strange isn't it Des?

The most popular non red-top paper is the Daily Mail. Oh wow, look at that
representation of society. How odd.

One thing I have said over and over, that you have consistently ignored, is
that I believe 9/10 people are *capable* of being "intelligent" (for my
definition see Bemli passim). But it is their apathy, their lack of
interest, and their selfishness that keeps them firmly in the 90%ers. People
are lazy, selfish, and self-interested to the all-encompassing degree that
they give up thinking for themselves, and take on the views of their
influences and peers without filters.

It is haywire mimetic. Which is easier: Research into the actions of Rupert
Murdoch, his business practises, and his discrepancies before deciding to
give him your money, or getting Sky because your neighbour has? Which is
easier: Gawd blessing the Queen Mother, or investigating her history to find
out what kind of person she is? Which is easier: Reacting to Brass Eye in
the way in which your newspaper has told you to, or watching the programme
and forming your own opinions?

As a species we mimetically follow our peers - it is all but impossible not
to. The difference is that about 1/10 people are aware that they are doing
it.

God's way of forcing BEMLI back on topic..
