I'm a bottom poster, as you'll see.
But it's obvious that, if you have a huge long email (or string) and you
just want to write "OK, see you then" and there won't be any more, you may
as well top-post it.  Don't forget you need to look at the top of an email
for a split second anyway.   So top posting is OK for a short comment on a
lengthy thing below, isn't it? 

Not for a mailing list though.
